How to Do the Zany Dance (Fortnite Emote) in 6 Moves
The Zany dance from Fortnite broken into six moves you can learn in your kitchen, plus the fastest way to get it on video without rehearsing.

The Zany dance looks chaotic, which is the point, but underneath it is a short loop of moves that repeats. Once you can do one loop, you can do the whole thing. Below is the routine as it appears in the in-game emote and in the TikTok versions that took off this autumn, slowed down into pieces.
Before you start the Zany dance
Clear a bit of floor, wear shoes with some grip and prop your phone at hip height, a couple of steps away, so your feet stay in the shot. The emote is all about the legs, and a clip that cuts off at the knees loses half the joke.
The six moves of the Zany dance
1. The bounce
Stand with your feet under your hips and bounce lightly on the balls of your feet. Keep the knees soft. This bounce runs under everything else, so don't stop it while you add the other parts.
2. Knee pop, right side
Lift your right knee up towards your chest, quick and high, then put it straight back down. Think "pop", not "march": up fast, down fast.
3. Jazz hands by the face
As the knee comes up, bring both hands up beside your face, palms forward, fingers spread, and shake them. The hands and the knee should land on the same beat. This pairing is the part people recognise instantly.
4. Switch sides
Do the same knee pop with the left leg, hands still wiggling. Alternate a few times: right, left, right, left, keeping the bounce going.
5. The shoulder wiggle
Drop the hands to about chest height and shimmy the shoulders forward and back while your feet keep stepping. Pull a face here; the emote is called Zany for a reason.
6. Go off script
The TikTok versions add their own flavour at the end of a loop: a one-leg balance, a kiss blown at the camera, a laugh. Pick one and make it yours.
Common Zany dance mistakes
- Lifting the knee too slowly. It reads as marching. Snap it up.
- Freezing the hands. Jazz hands should never stop moving.
- Standing too close to the camera. If your feet are out of frame, nobody sees the knee pops.
- Forgetting the bounce. Without it the moves look stiff and separate.
Practice plan
Do moves 1 to 3 slowly ten times, then add the switch, then the shoulders. Most people get a passable loop in fifteen minutes and a good one in an evening. Film yourself early: the camera shows timing problems a mirror hides.
The no-rehearsal version
If the person you want dancing is your grandma, your toddler or a friend who refuses to film, the Zany Emote Fortnite studio does it from a single full-body photo. Pick the in-game emote, the TikTok cut or the zero-gravity remix, and you get a vertical clip with the sound in a few minutes. Your first one is free.
Skip the rehearsal
One full-body photo is all it takes to get the Zany on video. Your first clip is free.
